A face that does half the work

The sleepy expression is what makes him. Two closed lashes and a small smile, painted low on the front of the head bowl so it still reads once the plant is in. Nothing about him is trying too hard.

No — he arrives empty and ready for whatever you choose. That is deliberate: shipping live plants adds cost, delays and a lot of dead leaves. Most people plant a small trailing plant in his head and a cactus or succulent in the pot he is holding.

What size plants fit?

The head bowl comfortably takes a standard [9cm] nursery pot's worth of plant — a spider plant, a small pothos, a fern, a peace lily. The cup in his hands suits a small succulent, an aloe or a cactus. Faux plants work just as well if you would rather not water anything.

Is there a drainage hole?

There is no drainage hole, so either keep your plant in its nursery pot and sit that inside the bowl, or add a layer of gravel at the bottom and water lightly. Both are standard for decorative indoor planters.

What is he made of?

Glossy white glazed [ceramic], with a painted face. He has a reassuring bit of weight to him rather than feeling like plastic, and he wipes clean with a damp cloth.
